Champagne and Aishihik First Nation (CAFN) is calling for expressions of interest for the position of Coordinator for the Da Kų Nän Ts’étthèt – Our House is Waking Up the Land. A Celebration of Aboriginal Drumming, Song & Dance Festival June 2, 3, 4, 2017.

Qualified person will be responsible for all aspects of the Dance Festival which will be held on CAFN traditional territory at DaKu Cultural Center in Haines Junction, Yukon.

Specific duties include:

Coordinating and documenting meetings of the festival Working Group.

Assisting in development of planning and critical path timeline for event.

Managing the contacting and contracting of all festival artists, presenters; and contractors including confirming all logistical and technical requirements; and confirming compensation and travel support.

Managing hospitality, accommodations, travel, honoraria, meals and other logistical requirements prior to and during festival.

Leading volunteer recruitment and scheduling.

Assisting in event marketing, including but not limited to: merchandise development; program/brochure; advertising; and media outreach and enquiries.

Assisting in identifying and accessing sponsorship, grant, and other fund-raising opportunities.

Leading Working Group in completion of general post-festival de-brief and final report to assist with future planning, as well as lead fulfilment of any other required funding reports.

Coordinating all logistics, including but not limited to: Dance groups, Speakers, Elder/Youth participation, Cooks, workers, Employment Opportunities Crew, set up and take down.

Recruiting workers, speakers, and performers.

Monitoring and updating the budget and agreements, ensuring they are being adhered to.

Updating, maintaining and implementing detailed Dance Festival task sheet.

Other planning and coordination as required.

Contract Payments:

Coordinating the event is expected to take approximately 30 full working days at $500.00 per day not to exceed $9,000.00, with flexible work hours from the date of hire to the conclusion of the Dance Festival, including the writing of the final report. Expected time of working is ASAP to June 16, 2017. Payment will be pro-rated for work days of less than 8 hours. The successful applicant will need to begin work as soon as possible.


Previous event planning and coordinating experience is required

Knowledge of CAFN structure required

Valid Class 5 Drivers Licence and own vehicle

Successful candidate will be expected to sign an oath of confidentiality form

Be prepared to provide proof of WCB coverage

It should be noted that CAFN will pay travel and accommodation rates as per CAFN approved rates when required.
