CAFN ANNOUNCES DA KŲ NÄN TS’ÉTTHÈT FESTIVAL

Dakwakada (Haines Junction) – The Champagne and Aishihik First Nations is excited to announce Da Kų Nän Ts’étthèt, a brand new festival of aboriginal drumming and dance, which will take place at Da Kų Cultural Centre this June 12-14.

“We invite everyone to participate during the Da Kų Nän Ts’étthèt festival,” said Chief Steve Smith. “This brand new biannual festival is an opportunity to come together and celebrate Dän K’e (Our Way) through drumming, song, dance and much more.”

Da Kų Nän Ts’étthèt, which means “Our House is Waking up the Land”, will feature First Nation performers from Yukon and Alaska. Workshops will be offered throughout the event including song creation, drum and regalia making, storytelling and much more. A main goal for the festival is to collectively write one new song and perform it on the final afternoon. All events are family-friendly and free of charge.

“This festival is about encouraging everyone to learn about and honour their traditions,” said Chief Smith. “And it is about sharing and inspiring people who may not have danced or drummed before. It is about connecting.”

Da Kų Nän Ts’étthèt details:
June 12 – event begins in the evening;
June 13 – workshops, performances and more all day and evening;
June 14 – final events and performances take place.
