COVID-19 Update – Kwätsi Dän plan complete and no longer in effect
Citizen Bulletin
COVID-19 Update May 26, 2023
On May 18, 2023 Champagne and Aishihik First Nations (CAFN) Council passed a resolution ending use of the Kwätsi Dän (We work) COVID-19 recovery plan. Kwätsi Dän COVID-19 safety measures are no longer in effect at CAFN.
With the end of the emergency declaration by the World Health Organization this month, we are happy that COVID-19 is no longer considered a global public health emergency. CAFN is now shifting our focus to mental health recovery and to reconnecting with each other in-person.
CAFN will continue to monitor for respiratory viruses through our wastewater monitoring program and publish results here: https://cafn.ca/covid-19/wastewater . Masks and rapid tests continue to be available to CAFN Citizens on request at the community halls and the Whitehorse and Haines Junction administrative buildings.
Though milder, COVID-19 still poses a greater risk for vulnerable people than the flu or a cold. Please remember, it is still important to stay home when you are sick. If you have symptoms or test positive for COVID-19 please follow the Government of Yukon’s guidance here: https://yukon.ca/en/health-and-wellness/covid-19-information/your-health-covid-19/what-do-if-you-get-positive-covid-19 .
