Request for Interested Individuals – February 29, 2016
ANTICIPATORY– Haines Junction
Sam William’s Youth Centre

The Sam Williams Youth Centre in Haines Junction is compiling a list of individuals who would like to assist in making a difference in the lives of our community children/youth.

To challenge and provide opportunities for community children and youth by delivering programming that builds on the philosophies of the Circle of Courage. The Circle of Courage is a model of youth empowerment made up of four quadrants, each standing for a central value belonging, mastery, independence, and generosity. The Circle of Courage encourages youth to have a sense of Belonging (attachment), Mastery (achievement), Independence (autonomy), and Generosity (altruism).

Below is a list of some activities to build on the philosophies of the Circle of Courage. We are open to any contemporary or traditional activity of interest or knowledge of a specific talent that you would be willing to share either to children 6 to 12 or youth ages 13 plus;
Music lessons, Archery, Dene / Inuit Games, arts, crafts, Southern Tutchone language, song, dance, drumming, storytelling, sewing, knitting, hunting, fishing, horseback riding, canoeing, skiing, snowshoeing, snaring, trapping, first hunt, anything pertaining to on-the –land opportunities, Martial Arts, Aikido, recreational sports, Individual Mentorship, Chaperoning, Workshops facilitations pertaining to Youth Issues, transporting youth in a CAFN vehicle to surrounding communities to attend various activities Initiating Afterschool Programming for children 6 to 12, Initiating Programming for youth ages 13 plus.

Any of these activities/other appeal to you? Then we need you!

Seeking individuals to demonstrate positive role modeling for youth participants. Able to work in a cross cultural and team environment. Willing to offer and implement contemporary and traditional activities of interest or knowledge of a specific talent or skill. The Sam William’s Youth Center will utilize this list by contacting the interested individual dependent on the interest of the individual and on the program needed. This list will be valid for one year.

The successful individuals will have (dependent on the area of talent):

  • Enthusiasm and creative energy while working with the youth
  • A sense of maturity and strong work ethic
  • Excellent personal skills to influence a fun, safe and positive environment
  • Ability to work alone or in a team in a constructive and meaningful way
  • First Aid Training
  • Valid class 5 driver’s license

Activities will be expected to be initiated after-school, evenings & weekends. Remuneration by honorarium.

Interested individuals are to clearly identify their area of interest/talent/skill when responding.
