CAFN is looking for Citizens to fulfill the role of: Lead Hand and Crew; CAFN Sha Je Community Maintenance and Improvement Program.

Date: ASAP to September 20, 2024 w/opportunity to extend

Location: Haines Junction, Tahkini & other CAFN Communities

 

Job Summary: These casual positions support community beautification projects within CAFN traditional territory. In collaboration with team members, the Lead Hand & Crew are responsible for completing projects to help beautify CAFN’s communities. Community projects may include, but are not limited to, landscaping, labouring, painting, fixing traditional structures (like smokehouses), supporting camps/set-up, working at the General Assembly (supporting set-up and operations as needed), community clean-up, Greenhouse, brush cutting and other projects as assigned. The Lead Hand is responsible for supporting the Field Leader to complete community projects and assists in supervising the work crew.

Summary of Responsibilities:

  • Collaborating with Field Leader and Coordinator to complete projects
  • Providing knowledge of general carpentry, brush clearing, fence repair, camp set-up, and general labour on various tasks & assignments
  • Maintaining program equipment and supplies
  • Ensuring safety of all crew members
  • Establishing temporary/maintain work camps for the Work Crew to support projects in CAFN communities
  • Travel to CAFN communities during the project and may require overnight/multi-day camping
  • Greenhouse operations & maintenance
  • Lead Hand:: Assisting the Field Leader in supervising the work crew (approximately 6 people)

Requirements:

  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License, Class 4 preferred
  • Acceptable criminal record check
  • Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends, as required
  • Mandatory confidentiality is a condition of employment for all CAFN personnel
  • All Champagne and Aishihik First Nations employees are expected to conduct their duties in a harmonious and cooperative manner intended to enhance the First Nations efforts to build a strong and prosperous Government.
