Job Summary:

The Sha Je Program is a wellness and employment support program aimed at assisting individuals in the achievement of personalized goals and completion of training addressing identified need areas. This position is required to engage in all aspects of the program including participating in cultural activities with the Sha Je Crew, comprehensive wellness support and case management with the Sha Je Coordinator as well as reporting to the Sha Je Foreman, to support community beautification projects within CAFN traditional territory. In collaboration with Sha Je Crew Members, the Sha Je Lead Hand is responsible for completing projects to help beautify CAFN’s communities in a safe and productive manner. Community projects may include, but are not limited to, landscaping, labouring, painting, fixing traditional structures (like smokehouses), supporting camps/events set-up and operations as needed, community clean-up, and FireSmart. The Lead Hand is responsible for supporting the Foreman to complete community projects and assists in supervising the work crew.

Education and Experience:

Completion of Grade 12 with two years’ trade experience or two years’ apprentice training would be preferred. An equivalent combination of training or work experience will also be considered. Work experience in a supervisory role would be an asset.

Conditions of Employment:

  • A valid Yukon Class 5 driver’s license
  • Vulnerable Sector Check
  • Valid First Aid Certificate or willing to obtain
  • Valid Level 3 – Intermediate Chainsaw Operator Ticket or willing to obtain
  • Wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE)
  • Willing and able to travel throughout CAFN Traditional Territory
  • Willingness to stay overnight at cultural/community camps
  • Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends, as required
  • Extended workdays may be required to accomplish tasks and meet workload demands during peak periods, as directed
