Innovative Log Homes Project Seeking Participants

Crew Leader (1) and Trainees (4)

Champagne and Aishihik First Nations (CAFN) has partnered with White River First Nation (WRFN) to provide more sustainable housing for their Citizens, while also developing the skills and capacity of Citizens to build log housing.  In Haines Junction, we are building two small houses (14×24) using 6×8 logs, with a strong emphasis on energy efficiency in these buildings.

Location: Haines Junction

Date: The duration of this project may take 2 – 3 weeks, starting ASAP.

Crew Leader Salary: $27.25/hour

Trainee Salary: $24.12/hour

 Job Summary

We are seeking CAFN and WRFN Citizens to help complete this project. The exteriors are nearly done (need the fascia and insect protection installed).  The interiors need to be completed (insulation, strapping, partition walls, cupboards/counters, and finishing using wood products on the walls, ceiling and floor).

We need one experienced skilled Crew Leader (minimum 3rd Year Carpenter preferred – or related building skills with proven Leadership experience), and semi-skilled participant trainees (up to 4) to work to complete the structures in a learning environment.
