Statement from Kaaxnox, Dän Nätthe Äda on Yukon COVID-19 Safety Measures
Dakwäkäda (Haines Junction, Yukon) – Champagne and Aishihik First Nations (CAFN) fully supports the Government of Yukon decisions to strengthen our border and travel requirements and continue the Yukon state of emergency.
Our First Nation continues to take a precautionary approach in our response to COVID-19. The health and safety of our people and communities will always be our top priority.
The steps announced by Premier Silver and Dr. Hanley this week are crucial to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in the Yukon, which is significant in two ways:
- Health and safety – by limiting the spread, we avoid preventable illness and death for all Yukoners; and
- Long-term economic health – by reducing the health impacts, we support our economy to recover more quickly as we begin to emerge from the pandemic in the months to come.
Living with COVID-19 and its effects on our daily lives is hard. But we are in this together. As long as we are calm and kind, and always look out for one another, we will get through the pandemic in the best possible way.
Be a Safe 6 Champion. Stay vigilant and remember that COVID-19 is with us every day. If we all practice the Safe 6, we will prevent the spread of this virus.
