Chief and Council Spotlight — May 4-8

Congrats to Łä̀ch’i Kų̀ Youth Team – Arctic Inspiration Prize Winners: Champagne and Aishihik First Nations congratulates the Łä̀ch’i Kų̀ (Indigenous Tourism Collective) youth team and CAFN Citizen Mats’äsäna Mą Primozic on receiving the Arctic Inspiration Prize earlier this week for their leadership in culture- and language-based Indigenous tourism on CAFN Traditional Territory. Chief Joe proudly supported the project as a nominator. CAFN extends gratitude to all the youth, Elders, knowledge keepers, and partners who helped bring this vision forward.

Champagne and Aishihik First Nations continues to move important work forward for our people, our lands, and future generations. This week, Chief Barbara Joe is participating in the Yukon Forum, joining other Yukon First Nations Chiefs and the Yukon government in a government-to-government table to advance shared priorities for our communities. Through this forum, CAFN continues to push for stronger partnerships, meaningful implementation of our agreements, and better outcomes for our citizens across the Yukon.

CAFN Community Energy Planning – Quick Update: As we close the 2024–25 fiscal year, Champagne and Aishihik First Nations is moving forward in developing a Community Energy Plan designed to make energy more affordable, efficient, and reliable for our citizens. The survey results shown in this photo highlight strong community support for reducing energy use in homes and buildings and for exploring clean energy options like wind and geothermal that respect our lands, waters, and culture. Work in 2026–27 will focus on detailed studies, energy audits, and continued engagement to help shape the best path forward for CAFN.

At the same time, work continues in advancing our Community Energy Plan to make energy more affordable, efficient, and reliable for CAFN citizens, and we’re celebrating the Łä̀ch’i Kų̀ (Indigenous Tourism Collective) youth team for their recent Arctic Inspiration Prize win. Together, these efforts reflect our commitment to strong communities, healthy homelands, and a thriving CAFN economy rooted in language and culture.
