Chief and Council Spotlight — June 15-19

Yukon Days may be over, but the work continues. This week’s photos highlight how Chief Joe and CAFN are continuing the work that began in Ottawa, while also celebrating the successes of our students at home.

At the Yukon Days reception in Ottawa, Yukon First Nations Chiefs and Yukon’s Premier stood together to highlight shared northern priorities with federal partners. Chief Joe was part of this united Yukon presence, making sure CAFN Citizens’ priorities were part of the conversation on issues like health and wellness, salmon, energy, Hydro 4, and northern infrastructure.

That work has continued back in the Yukon. Earlier this week, Chief Joe met with Premier Currie Dixon, keeping intergovernmental discussions moving forward and reinforcing CAFN’s commitment to strong, respectful partnerships with other governments.

Chief Joe was honoured to attend the Yukon First Nations Graduation held last Friday and honour the graduates alongside other Yukon First Nations Chiefs and the Grand Chief. Congratulations to all the 2026 graduates, and a special shäw nithän / thank you to the CAFN students whose hard work and determination have brought them to this milestone. You make our Nation proud, and we look forward to the paths you will walk as leaders, professionals, knowledge keepers, and community builders.

Meanwhile, it has also been a busy week in CAFN governance. Standing Committee and ECW meetings were held in preparation for upcoming decisions, followed by a Chief and Council meeting to guide CAFN’s ongoing work on behalf of Citizens.
