What’s Possible When Yukon First Nations and Others Come Together in Community

Chief Joe addresses the audience at the launch of the Yukon First Nations Cancer Strategy, sharing her pride in being a signatory and in centring Yukon First Nations voices in cancer care.

This post is part of a series highlighting how Chief and Council are advancing CAFN priorities.

Chief Joe recently joined partners to launch the Yukon First Nations Cancer Strategy – Cancer Care Pathways: Improving First Nations Cancer Experiences and Outcomes in the Yukon.

As a signatory to this ground breaking strategy, Chief Joe shared her pride in seeing Yukon First Nations leadership at the centre of cancer care. She also donated a drum to mark the occasion, recognizing the importance of culture, ceremony and song in supporting citizens and families on their cancer journeys.

The Strategy is the first of its kind in the Yukon, developed through years of collaboration between Yukon First Nations, the Council of Yukon First Nations, Yukon Hospital Corporation, Government of Yukon, Elders, cancer survivors and the Canadian Partnership Against Cancer. It focuses on Yukon First Nations leadership and self determination, equitable access to screening and services, and cultural safety defined by those receiving care.
