Statement from Dän nätthe äda K’úkhįá – Chief Barb Joe

March 1, 2023

Dear Citizens and Community Members:

In difficult times our people come together to heal, to support each other and to show our respect.  It is an important time to come together now.

Champagne and Aishihik First Nations is holding a sacred fire outside the Natsekhi Ku (Healing House) in Dakwäkäda (Haines Junction) on March 1 through 3, 2023.

I encourage any Shadhäla Äshèyi yè Kwädän (CAFN people) and community members who are hurting or grieving, or who want to lend support, please stop by to visit the fire this week.  Our Community Wellness team is also standing by to help.

Other gatherings and cultural workshops to bring people together are being planned.  We look forward to sharing more details soon.

It is our way to love and support one another.  We look forward to showing our care and continuing to come together as a community in the days to come.

In love and unity,

 Dän nätthe äda K’úkhįá

Chief Barb Joe
